I recently modded my wheel to have more buttons on it. Now I mapped the most important commands to them so I don't have to lean forward anymore to reach my keyboard.
I wanted to make it real cheap, so I just took a non-vibrating gamepad for €6,- and my wheel. Actually the pad you see here is not the one I used, I just took this photo after I've ripped it apart :-)
I took off the wheelcover (be careful if you want to open your rgt, 2 of the screws are under the eye-shaped thrustmaster sign) and lubed the gears while it was open... that helped a lot! The ff is much more exact right now, and fast countersteering is a pleasure!
That's the inside of the pad. I put a bit of solder everywhere I wanted to put a cable later.
The cable itself was an old floppy cable I took apart, cost nothing and I could group it by taking e.g. 2x3 wires for a group of 3 Buttons. I know I could have used only 4 wires (3 for every anode + 1 cathode), but since I have enough space I just took the lazy way.
here you can see how I did the pov. It's important to be careful when soldering on circuit boards, if you stay on the board too long the conductive layer will pop off...
I screwed the buttons into the cover, then I glued them all in. The circuit board was also glued into place. The wide silver tape you see next to the gears is only to prevent any cable from getting into them. Again I could have used a more elegant way to solve this (metal or plastic plates) but I didn't want to spend any extra time or money on this.
Same here, but an appology is short, says that I really am sorry, lets the victim feel better and can show that i didn't do it on purpose.
Usually there are just two little lines after a normal accident:
driver1:sorry m8
driver2:np :-)
I would call this fair and short conversation, not spam :-)
Other drivers can also see if driver1 is dangerous or a noob (not a n0oB noob, just a guy with little experience) if he appologises more often...
Spam would be like this:
driver2: wtf
driver3: :-)
driver4: race dammit
driver1: not my fault
driver2: you hit me, peace o' sh**
driver1: your mama
driver3: :-)
driver4: shut up spamming the hole with your sh** and race. Don't chat an
driver4: d quit talking you dumba**** with your big ************! You're
driver4: talking too much, now race
driver1: kick driver2
driver3: 1
driver4 quit (ping timeout)
driver1: your mama again
...
That's what comes into my sick mind when I read the word "spam".
As someone said before, Racing (in every form and length) is a non contact sport, so I tend to appologize for any tap that makes the other driver lose his preferred line, except when racing mirror to mirror in e.g. the xfgs, which is the most interesting part imo.
Being an experienced but slow driver I mostly have to start in the back of the grid where there are many "little taps" in the first corner. Recently I avoid crashes by letting everyone pass before t1 and then running through the debris of crashed people insulting each other :-). Still there are race incidents where I have to appologize (is this spelled right?) but mostly racing in the "real" midfield is great and fair.
[off topic again]
sprint/endurance racing is like sex, some prefer it fast and quick, some like it smooth and long

I just wanted to ask if there will be a new midweek cup next year.
Though I am a slow and sometimes dangerous driver I enjoyed racing this cup very much! In fact the first ever league race I participated in was the midweek challenge cup, and I play lfs for 3 or 4 years now!
I really want to thank you at [dsrc] for helping me improve me pb's, getting used to more cars n' tracks and last but not least for indirectly helping me join the guys at zwr .
The race yesterday was kind of funny, I drove a new pb (2:15) and was proud as hell, in the second one I seem to have lost all of my self confidence, crashed out, went into the pits 5 or 6 times just to spin out into the gravel (XRR!!!) and beginning the race from scratch. One or two laps later the race was finished and I got disqualified BECAUSE I DIDN'T PIT!
Man, looking back it's funny as hell! I really enjoyed both races and I've learned a lot! BTW I want to appologize for the crash at the 2nd start yesterday, I totally f***ed it!
I totally agree with Racer Y's points. The tracks we already have are very original and challenging (in fact I LOBVE every square inch of all the tracks, exept the oval), and I do NOT want to pay more to have tracks that are more or less well copied original ones.
Besides of all that i'm pretty sure that most of you guys who voted FOR a certain track wouldn't pay anything for it. I wouldn't want to pay 45 Euros for S2, and additionally 30 or more for s3, would YOU?
I totally agree with al's position, you cannot divide players by anything into mature and noob. I know many people I race with, stupid 18 year olds, great and fair sixteeners, vice versa and more...... mileage and age do not matter, if you're an idiot or a (mostly) clean and fair guy.
The only way out of this dilemma would be more fairness and maturity overall on the public servers.
You all know the deal: one gets pushed off the track or goes off by his own fault, blames the others, gets mad on the server, others get mad too....... This behaviour is for halflife kids, but also quite common on lfs servers though.
So it is up to YOU if there are fine races or silly ban-wrecker shootuots.
I don't think there's any advantage in l/rhd for us noobish drivers. Perhaps you can tweak your laptimes down for a tenth or so, but imho it's more improtant to drive good lines. If my pbs were near to the wr times, then I would try another driver position, but since I'm so slow this won't matter for me. I'll just keep on training lhd.
When I wanted to order a wheel a year ago I checked some forums and saw quality issues about the dfp all over the place. So I decided to get my RGT pro and hope for the best... and it actually is a very good wheel! The only thing you hear about the thrustmaster wheel is that the paddles could break under heavy usage (of some noobs who tend to drive like wrestlers I presume). My wheel feels relly good, nothing broke, no pedal spiking, no Problems at all - plus it "only" cost 100 Euros, which I think is enough for a wheel. In fact the value to price ratio compared to the G25 is very good. I would rather buy a cheap car with nothing but the most neccessary in it than a crappy mercedes that doesn't go anywhere except on the lifting ramp
By now at least Scawen has read this and I bet he's laughing at us. I would feel like a superstar if people tried to guess how "rich" i was at the moment :-)
Dear devs,
indeed you're something like popstars... 3 gents who gathered at least 60000 people around them, begging for the next album (patch)!
I've got some awesome headphones, philips 8580 and bought a logitech microphone to chat around a little. But this combination and lfs isn't too comfortable, so I'm searching for a wireless mike which I can clip onto my headphones. Is there anything like this and where can I get it?
The reason for going wireless is comfort and freedom , and I never want to miss these again ;-)
Yes, I can assign the l/r look function to ONE axis. The problem is I have 2 separate unbound axes on my wheel and cannot bind one direction to one axis.
It's like if I had gas/brake axis hw separate and would have to combine them in the game preferences. wouldn't work...
Since I've got the thrustmaster rally gt I have two seperate axes below my shifting paddles.
Would it be possible to map one axis to left, the other to right view? I would highly appreciate such a feature because I could look out of the window gradually, not only 90°.
errm... the psu usually sucks the hot air out of the case. Never had any blow-psu.
BTW I built almost every computer from scratch, except my c64, bought this thing with my father and modded it into a nice wooden kb-frame without touching the guts :-)
Since then I always bought the upgrade I needed, atm I have a 3200+, 512mb ram, 160gb hdd, a completely modded 400w psu, and a 9800 pro in an old throwaway server bigtower. Enough to play lfs i think.
what about the thrustmaster rgt pro? ball bearings, 270° steering (sometimes more than enough!), solid pedals, 5 axes (2 behind the wheel or option of installing more pedals for clutch etc.)..........
Everytime I leave the chicane I wander into a big forest. I see trees, birds, spiders dancing their zigzag little dance. A hippo is crossing my way in delightness, wondering how fast I can run. Hobbits and elves invite me to a party with beer, bread and fine smoking herbes. And just as I walk over the rich and soft green grass I realise.....
okay, I have to throw my 2 cents into this circle.
First: I don't like ferrari at all. And please don't ask me for the real reason (let's say I don't like the ferrari image)
But the fia rules of 05 said that the rear wing may not deform under the weight of 100kg. I'm not into this aerodynamic stuff but maybe the wind resistance on such a wing gets higher than 100kg, therefor it would be allowed to build a somewhat flexible wing.
please read the Improvement Suggestions , there you may see all wanted improvements plus a thread about what will be in further versions and what is unlikely to be in.
Edit: BTW, racing LFS is NOT REAL racing and will never be. real life has still better feedback ;-)
Ah, now we have one nice controversial conversation here
[moral mode]
I agree with thisnameistaken, If one would simply search for a topic, e.g. "cars we want..." and would post his/her deserved car then we all would have ONE list of cars people like. This would even be more helpful for the devs than a hord of uncivilised people storming the forum screaming around "I WANT MY NFS SUPRA BODYKIT IN LFS!"
And if there was one thread about wanted cars (don't get me wrong because of my bad english, this thread exists, but there are 121348 extra ones) I would look into it sometimes and smile, some car wishes are too funny. but as there are dozens of new threads every week, so I get FREAKIN P***ED, UNDERSTAND?! naa, just kidding. But it makes me think about how civilised the community is and how uncivilised some people are.
[/moral mode]
Edit: @Becky: Yes, you're right too! This forum IS also some kind of feedback newsletter for the devs! And it should stay like this. But I think we should get a little tidier around here, more structured. That's all
there should b a 1600x1200 sign before the improvements log saying "FREAKIN READ THIS FIRST"! I searched the forum many times for stuff I would like to be improved in the game, usually I only start a new threat when I am sure that it is a)neccessary and b)something I really want to say because IMO it HAS to be said. But if some demo noobs see this forum for the first time and think they have to post that they want this and that, this really IS annoying, don't you think??
